Trikonasana: Triangle Pose
Utthita Trikonasana - triangle pose - is the embodiment of the power and balance of the triad and its cyclical nature. The number three shows up across many cultures, history, and even math as a direct path to stability and balance. Three was the number of harmony for Pythagoras. It represented completeness for Aristotle. Threes in a tarot deck implies equilibrium. In yoga and ayurveda, the material world is expressed through the three gunas: rajas, tamas, and sattva.
The triangle is stable and powerful from a structural standpoint, with associations to power, fire, and harmony; it's ability to support large amounts of weight and pressure further enhances its symbolic strength. When inverted, the triangle can represent femininity, as it becomes a vessel.
Trikonasana asks us to reflect on both our strength/stability and our receptivity/grace. It is the completion of a cycle. What appears to be a simple shape actually holds a depth of experience well beyond its first impressions. aybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more.
