Waxing FAQs

Everything you wanted to ask (but maybe felt weird Googling)

  • Waxing works by removing hair directly from the root (a structure called the hair follicle). When the hair is pulled out, your body starts the natural regrowth process. Over time, repeated waxing can weaken the follicle, making the hair grow back finer, softer, and sometimes even slower. Unlike shaving (which cuts the hair at the surface), waxing gives you longer-lasting results—typically 3–5 weeks depending on your hair growth cycle.

  • Yes, waxing can be uncomfortable—especially the first time. But it’s a quick kind of pain that gets easier over time. The more regularly you wax, the less it hurts because your hair becomes finer and your follicles get weaker. Also, I use high-quality wax and proper technique to minimize the discomfort (and no, I won’t double dip!).

Bonus tip: Avoid caffeine and alcohol the day of your appointment, as they can make your skin more sensitive.

  • About ¼ inch long—think the length of a grain of rice. If it’s too short, the wax can’t grip it. Too long? That’s okay—I’ll trim it for you if needed.

  • Every 3 to 5 weeks is ideal for most people. This keeps your skin smooth and disrupts the growth cycle enough that hair can become sparser over time. Consistency is key—try not to shave in between waxes, or it resets the whole process.

  • Absolutely, but it’s important to let me know if you’re using any skincare products like retinoids, exfoliants, or acne medication—especially in the area being waxed. These can make the skin more vulnerable to lifting or irritation. I use professional-grade products and can suggest aftercare to soothe and protect your skin post-treatment.

  • Before:

    • Gently exfoliate 24 hours before

    • Avoid caffeine or alcohol

    • Don’t shave before your appointment

    After:

    • Skip hot showers, saunas, sex, and workouts for 24–48 hours

    • Wear loose clothing

    • Avoid touching or scratching the area

    • Use a soothing, fragrance-free lotion or post-wax serum

  • Ingrowns happen when dead skin blocks the hair follicle, causing hair to grow back into the skin. I recommend exfoliating 2–3 times a week and using ingrown hair serums that contain ingredients like salicylic acid or tea tree oil. Hydrated skin also helps prevent them!

  • Got questions about what to expect?

Don’t worry, we’ll walk you through it all with compassion and lots of humor. Because self-care doesn’t have to be awkward.
